Charleston Sheiks Orchestra
Authentic music of the 1920s dance bands

The Charleston Sheiks plays vintage arrangements written for hotel dance orchestras during the 20s. Well-known orchestras recorded many of these arrangements. For greater variety, we can also mix in some tunes from the Promenade Orchestra repertoire. A smaller contingent of the band can play Dixieland classics. If you like the tunes but need or have space for only a 6-7 piece band, we have a modified dixieland band format that fills the bill.

Instrumentation: 2 trumpets, trombone, 2 saxophones, piano, banjo, tuba, drums, violin, male and female vocalists. For some occasions such as receptions, when you want the happy spirit of Dixieland, but a different sound, the band can play with only 9 pieces, omitting the piano, violin and vocalists. For 2-hour events, it is possible to omit one trumpet.

Ain't misbehavin'
Ain't she sweet
Am I blue?
At sundown
Baby won't you please come home
Back in your own backyard
Because my baby don't mean
   maybe now
Best things in life are free
Black bottom
Blue turning grey over you
Breezin' along with the breeze
Brown eyes why are you blue?
Button up your overcoat
Bye bye blackbird
Changes
Charleston
Clap hands, here comes Charlie
Clementine from New Orleans
Crazy rhythm
Crazy words, crazy tune
Dinah
Doin' the new lowdown
Doin' the raccoon
Down where the sun goes down
Five foot two, eyes of blue
From Monday on
Girl friend
Glad rag doll
Good news
Happy days and lonely nights
Happy days are here again
Happy feet
Heartaches
How am I to know?
I ain't got nobody
I can't give you anything but love
I know that you know
I love my baby, my baby loves me
I may be wrong, but I think
   you're wonderful
I'm a dreamer, aren't we all
I'm crazy 'bout my baby
I'm croonin' a tune about June
I'm gonna charleston back to
   Charleston
I'm in the market for you
I'm just a vagabond lover
I'm looking over a four leaf clover
I'm sitting on top of the world
I've got a feeling I'm fallin'
If I had you
If you knew Susie
In a shanty in old shantytown
Japanese sandman
Just like a melody out of the sky
Kansas City Kitty
Let's do it
Lonely melody
Loving you the way I do
Margie
Mean to me
Miss Annabelle Lee
Mississippi Mud
Moonlight on the Ganges
More than you know
My honey's lovin' arms
My melancholy baby
My old girl's my new girl now
Rose room
Sleepy time gal
Somebody stole my gal
Someday sweetheart
Song of India
Sunday
Sunny side up
Sweet man
That's my weakness now
There ain't no sweet man worth the salt
     of my tears
Thinking of you
Varsity drag
Waitin' for Katy
Walkin' my baby back home
Was that the human thing to do
What can I say after I say I'm sorry
Where the shy little violets grow
Who
Yes sir, that's my baby
You and the moon and me
You do something to me
You don't like it, not much
